Pearson and AWS Expand Partnership to Transform Education with AI
Pearson and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have announced an enhanced partnership to accelerate the implementation of AI-driven learning solutions and enhance access to digital education worldwide. This agreement will allow Pearson to integrate AWS cloud and AI capabilities, including Amazon Bedrock, into its learning products and services, with a specific focus on higher education and workforce development.
This collaboration builds on existing work, and underscores the importance of AI in addressing learning gaps and inefficiencies. A recent Pearson study indicated that inefficiencies in job transitions and learning inadequacies cost the American economy roughly $1.1 trillion annually. This partnership aims to address these issues and foster a more adaptive workforce.

AWS will continue to serve as Pearson’s strategic AI and cloud provider, supporting the company’s efforts to improve its education technology infrastructure. Many of Pearson’s higher education products already leverage AWS. Through this expanded agreement, Pearson will increase its use of cloud infrastructure and AI to enhance digital learning experiences across various platforms, including virtual schools, English-language learning programs, and higher education institutions.
By integrating Amazon Bedrock with Pearson’s datasets, the two companies will jointly develop innovative AI-powered learning solutions. These will include automated lesson generation, robust assessment tools, and real-time feedback mechanisms for educators and students. The goal is to scale personalized learning experiences while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards. The partnership represents a significant step towards a future where education is more accessible, tailored, and effective.
Pearson CEO Omar Abbosh highlighted the transformative potential of AI in education, stating, “As technology transforms the way we learn, improving people’s ability to learn is vital for an adaptive workforce. With the help of AWS, Pearson will be able to get there faster, scale personalized learning, and create more access to AI tools for learners and educators. This partnership brings together two respected and leading companies in the fields of technology and learning. Together, we can reach many more learners and provide them with the tools they need to succeed and realize the life they imagine for themselves.”
Beyond higher education, AWS and Pearson will also broaden their collaboration in workforce development. This will build on existing initiatives like GEDWorks, an employer-sponsored program designed to assist individuals in earning their GED, and Pearson’s digital credentialing platform, Credly. Furthering their commitment to professional development, Pearson VUE, the company’s testing and certification branch, will continue to work with AWS to deliver cloud technology certifications globally.
Matt Garman, CEO of AWS, emphasized the impact of this collaboration on digital learning. “We’re excited to expand our long-standing collaboration with Pearson to unlock the power of cloud and AI for learners around the world. Together with Pearson, we will leverage the global scale and AI capabilities of AWS to enable innovative new learning experiences that are personalized and accessible for all.” This expanded partnership represents a unified effort to redefine the future of education, leveraging the strengths of technology, cloud infrastructure, and AI to create a more inclusive and effective learning ecosystem for learners around the world.
