Startup Posts Job Listing for AI Agent, Not Human Software Engineer
In a groundbreaking move, AI startup Sensay claims to have published the world’s first job posting on LinkedIn for code creation by an AI agent, rather than for a human AI developer.
Sensay specializes in creating lifelike digital AI clones that perform tasks on behalf of individuals. These tasks include activities such as participating in video calls. The company’s job posting, which appeared on LinkedIn, was for a Full Stack Developer (AI Agent).
Instead of seeking a human to fill the role, the company is requesting human developers to submit functional code. They intend to pay an unspecified annual salary, open to negotiation, for the code that will make the AI agent.
Sensay says its agents perform a daily average of over half a million interactions.
The Role of the AI Agent
According to the job posting, the agent will be a fully autonomous AI tasked with creating code, testing and fixing software bugs, and writing technical documentation. The ideal candidate would demonstrate strengths in AI and machine learning and an ability to solve complex development problems. The company plans to integrate this AI agent into their communication channels such as email, WhatsApp, and Slack to collect feedback, suggest ideas, and contribute to software development.
Dan Thomson, Founder, and CEO of Sensay, stated in a press release, “By bringing on board our first AI employee, we’re taking a big step toward a future where AI and humans work together as colleagues and collaborators.”
Implications for the Industry
The job posting garnered over 100 applicants at the time of writing. This novel approach challenges conventional recruitment standards.
This move reflects a trend of AI taking on more and more responsibilities, potentially reshaping the job market. Recent reports have indicated that some LinkedIn accounts labeled as AI “co-workers” have been identified. This highlights the evolving landscape where AI is not just a tool but also a potential participant in the workforce.
According to recent surveys, American workers are experiencing reduced confidence in their job security. The introduction of AI agents into the job market could further affect the job market.
