AI’s Prominence at the ‘Two Sessions’
Artificial intelligence has emerged as a central theme at this year’s “two sessions” in Beijing, the annual meetings of China’s top legislature and political advisory body. Discussions have focused on both the opportunities and challenges presented by this rapidly evolving technology.

The National People’s Congress (NPC) and the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), which commenced on Tuesday, have witnessed extensive coverage of AI in both local media and official talking points.
Tech Competition and China’s Response
The emphasis on AI comes amid escalating hi-tech competition between China and the United States. The US has imposed sanctions on several of China’s hi-tech sectors.
When asked about this rivalry, Foreign Minister Wang Yi acknowledged “unjustified external suppression” but also emphasized China’s resilience. “When there are blockades, there are breakthroughs,” he stated.
Wang further highlighted China’s rapid progress toward its goal of becoming a technology leader. He also expressed China’s willingness to share the fruits of its innovation with other nations.
