IIT Madras-Incubated TuTr Hyperloop Forms International Partnerships

Chennai, India – TuTr Hyperloop, a deep-tech startup incubated at the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IITM), has established strategic international collaborations to accelerate the development and commercialization of hyperloop technology within India. These partnerships are designed to integrate hyperloop systems into India’s transportation network by focusing on essential components such as propulsion, levitation, and optimized infrastructure.

    Indo-German Collaboration

In a significant partnership between India and Germany, IIT Madras, TuTr Hyperloop Pvt. Ltd. (THPL), the Technical University of Munich (TUM), and Neoways Technologies GmbH (NEO) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement aims to expedite research, development, and deployment of hyperloop technology. The signing ceremony took place at IIT Madras’s Thaiyur Campus during Asia’s inaugural Global Hyperloop Competition. Attendees included IIT Madras Director Prof. V. Kamakoti, Indian Railways officials, and representatives from each participating organization.

“This collaboration exemplifies IIT Madras’ leadership in pioneering next-gen mobility solutions. By partnering with TuTr Hyperloop, TUM, and Neoways, we are moving closer to making Hyperloop a reality,” stated Prof. Satya Chakravarthy, Advisor (Hyperloop), IIT Madras.

This MoU outlines a structured framework for collaborative research, focusing on critical aspects of hyperloop technology including propulsion, levitation, structural design, infrastructure, and advanced control systems. Additionally, the partnership will establish sites for large-scale testing and validation to assess the feasibility and safety of hyperloop transit systems.

Dr. Aravind Bharadwaj, Co-Founder & Director of TuTr Hyperloop, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “Strong academia-industry partnerships are crucial to realizing affordable & scalable Hyperloop solutions. This collaboration will enable us to create a revolutionary mode of transportation from India for the world.”

Prof. Dr. Chiara Manfletti, Department Head at TUM, highlighted the impact of the collaboration, stating, “Our expertise in aerospace, propulsion, and system design will significantly advance Hyperloop research and commercial adoption.”

Gabriele Semino, Managing Director of Neoways Technologies GmbH, remarked, “Joining forces with IIT Madras and TuTr Hyperloop enables us to accelerate Hyperloop’s transition from concept to commercial reality.”

    Expanding Partnerships

Beyond the Indo-German collaboration, TuTr Hyperloop has also entered into an MoU with SYSTRA, a leading global engineering firm specializing in transportation. This partnership aims to advance next-generation high-speed transit solutions within India. The collaboration will combine TuTr Hyperloop’s hyperloop and high-speed transit expertise with SYSTRA’s extensive experience in infrastructure planning, engineering, and project implementation.

“This collaboration between TuTr Hyperloop and SYSTRA is a pivotal step towards transforming high-speed mobility in India. By combining deep-tech innovation with global engineering expertise, we are not only accelerating Hyperloop development but also laying the foundation for scalable and sustainable transportation solutions,” stated Prof Satya Chakravarthy, Advisor (Hyperloop), IIT Madras. He also emphasized that the partnership is in line with India’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047.

Dr. Aravind Bharadwaj of TuTr Hyperloop highlighted this collaboration: “At TuTr Hyperloop, we are committed to pioneering an affordable, homegrown high-speed transit solution from India for the world. Our partnership with SYSTRA strengthens our ability to develop cutting-edge transportation systems by integrating world-class engineering expertise with innovative mobility solutions.”

V Srinivas, SYSTRA India’s Representative, added, “India is at the forefront of reimagining transportation for the future. Hyperloop technology represents a game-changing innovation, and through this partnership with TuTr Hyperloop, we aim to contribute our engineering and infrastructure expertise to support the realization of this vision.”

    Roadmap for Hyperloop Implementation

Under these collaborations, technology development will focus on improving propulsion, levitation, and infrastructure efficiencies to advance high-speed mobility. Feasibility studies and route planning will be conducted to identify potential hyperloop corridors for passenger and cargo transit. This will include assessing infrastructure requirements, safety protocols, and environmental impact to align hyperloop solutions with India’s long-term mobility goals.

The initiative also prioritizes skill development and knowledge exchange, fostering research and innovation while building a robust talent pipeline for the future of high-speed transportation in India.

The MoUs signed with international and industry partners reinforce India’s growing leadership in sustainable, high-speed mobility solutions. They integrate deep-tech innovation with global engineering expertise to develop scalable hyperloop solutions for the country’s transport infrastructure.
