Miami’s tech and wellness scenes are about to get a boost with the launch of Betterness, an AI-powered platform aimed at helping users navigate the complex world of health data and wellness advice. The platform, spearheaded by tech veteran Demian Bellumio, is set to debut with a festival on March 26 in Miami, bringing together members of both communities.
Bellumio, who has spent years scaling tech startups and navigating the highs and lows of entrepreneurial life, realized the importance of personal wellness the hard way. “I drank to calm myself down. I was constantly networking over cocktails and food. I looked back at photos of myself and thought, ‘wow, I was destroyed,’” he told Refresh Miami. He noted that his health struggles impacted his ability to be a better leader, businessperson, and husband.
His personal reset began five years ago, involving weight loss, cycling, and diving into wellness science. At the same time, he co-founded Nue Life, a psychedelic therapy startup. This experience reinforced his understanding that wellness involves physical, mental, and spiritual well-being, requiring a “full ecosystem of support.”
Now, Bellumio is betting big on this understanding with Betterness. The platform is designed to help users make sense of the overwhelming amount of health data and content available. “You have all this information – your Apple Health, your WHOOP data, all these podcasts and books telling you what to do. But how do you actually make sense of it? That’s where Betterness comes in,” he explained. The platform aims to act as a personalized AI wellness coach by integrating personal health metrics with expert guidance.
He emphasizes that the platform is designed to connect users with human expertise. “AI doesn’t make you better, people make you better.” Betterness is also building tools for wellness providers, such as personal trainers and meditation studios, to help them connect with and better serve their clients. “Most of these businesses still rely on outdated tech stacks. We’re creating an AI-driven ecosystem that lets them personalize recommendations and scale their impact,” he added.
To launch Betterness, Bellumio and his co-founders – Ari Katz (co-CEO), Julia Mirer, MD, and Ashley Southard – are hosting the Betterness Festival, set for March 26 at Flow Miami. The event will bring together over 1,000 people from Miami’s tech and wellness communities for a day of workouts, breathwork, sound healing, and panels on longevity and performance.
Bellumio is also launching “Better Startup,” an initiative encouraging founders to prioritize their well-being to counteract the toll of high-pressure startup life. “We’re giving free festival tickets to anyone who commits to doing something positive for their wellness,” he said, adding, “Because if founders are healthier, they’ll build better startups.” To claim the free ticket, use code BETTERSTARTUP at checkout and share 2025 wellness goals on social media.
Bellumio expressed his excitement for the project: “This is the most excited I’ve been about a project in a long time. I truly believe we can change how people approach success, without burning themselves out in the process.”
