Microsoft Teams is set to enhance its communication capabilities with the upcoming launch of Real-Time Text (RTT) functionality. The feature, slated for a May 2025 rollout, will allow users on Windows and Mac platforms to type and send messages in real-time during calls and meetings, offering an alternative means of communication.
The addition of RTT aims to provide an additional channel for expression, particularly in scenarios where speaking may be challenging or impractical. According to a Microsoft 365 roadmap post, the feature is designed to foster effective collaboration for all users, particularly in busy meetings. The update promises “seamless instant communication for everyone.” It is also expected to serve as a valuable accessibility tool.
This feature is currently listed as being “in development.” Microsoft’s introduction of RTT is part of its ongoing efforts to make Teams a more intuitive and user-friendly platform. Recent announcements have also included multilingual transcription capabilities for meetings, extending support to a wider range of languages, and enhancements to document summaries, generated by Copilot.
In addition, Microsoft has unveiled a new Copilot feature that will suggest follow-up actions during conversations, aiming to sustain engagement within discussions. The company is aiming to continue improving upon its digital meeting experience.
