A former ByteDance executive has been appointed CEO of Shengshu AI, a significant move for the Chinese artificial intelligence (AI) video start-up amid fierce competition for talent in the quickly evolving industry.
Luo Yihang, previously the head of AI solutions at ByteDance’s cloud unit, Volcano Engine, will now oversee research and development, product management, commercialization, and team management at Shengshu, according to a company representative.

Tang Jiayu, Shengshu’s co-founder and former chief executive, will transition to the role of president, concentrating on core functional areas such as strategic development, branding, human resources, administration, finance, legal affairs, and intellectual property, the representative confirmed on Wednesday.
Shengshu was established in early 2023, coinciding with the surge of interest in generative AI following OpenAI’s release of ChatGPT. The company gained recognition in China last year with the introduction of Vidu, a video-generation model considered a competitor to OpenAI’s Sora.

Beijing-based Shengshu has strong ties to Tsinghua University, with key members of its core team being graduates. These include President Tang, Chief Scientist and computer science professor Zhu Jun, and Chief Technology Officer Bao Fan.
