NRG Oncology and Flatiron Health Announce Collaboration to Streamline Cancer Clinical Trials
March 19, 2025
Flatiron Health, a healthtech company focused on transforming clinical research, has announced a collaboration with NRG Oncology (NRG), a leading clinical research consortium within the National Cancer Institute’s (NCI) National Clinical Trials Network (NCTN). The partnership will deploy Flatiron’s Clinical Pipe™ technology in a multicenter NRG clinical trial, with the goal of enhancing efficiency and accelerating timelines in cancer research.

Flatiron Clinical Pipe™ is an electronic health record (EHR) to electronic data capture (EDC) connector designed to improve the efficiency of clinical study data entry. By implementing this technology, NRG and Flatiron aim to reduce the burden on clinical trial site teams and streamline data management processes in NCTN-sponsored studies. The collaboration also includes a correlative study to assess the efficiency of Flatiron Clinical Pipe™ compared to traditional data entry methods.
“Collaborating with NRG Oncology is a significant opportunity to create a new trial experience and unlock higher data quality,” said Alex Deyle, General Manager of Clinical Research at Flatiron Health. “By providing our cutting-edge technology to more research teams, we hope to improve efficiency and ultimately accelerate improvements in cancer care.”
Research published in the journal ESMO Real World Data and Digital Oncology showed that teams using Flatiron Clinical Pipe™ were able to accurately transfer thousands of data points with substantial time savings compared to traditional data entry methods.
Dr. Alexandra Thomas, Vice Chair of NRG Protocol Operation Management, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration and its potential to improve clinical trial efficiency. “Enhancing clinical trial efficiency with Clinical Pipe and other technologies holds the promise of delivering NRG clinical trial results to our patients with greater accuracy and speed,” she said. “This will help us deliver on the promise of less suffering from cancer through operational advances.”
