The Trump administration has granted an ethics waiver to venture capitalist David Sacks, now serving as the president’s special advisor for artificial intelligence and crypto. This waiver clears Sacks to work on regulatory matters directly related to his financial holdings, according to a White House memorandum reviewed by The Lever. The move follows President Donald Trump’s dismissal of the Senate-confirmed director of the Office of Government Ethics, the independent agency responsible for enforcing federal ethics laws.
The ethics waiver, dated March 5, was issued by White House counsel David Warrington to Sacks, stating, “I am granting you a waiver… of any conflict of interest regarding particular matters of general applicability concerning the digital asset industry.”
