One of the key areas of improvement in digiKam 8.6 is the refined AI integration. The software already employs AI for face detection, and this release builds upon those features. The face management framework has been completely rewritten, resulting in better performance and a reduction in false positives from the face detector. A new face classifier has also been implemented to improve accuracy.

Furthermore, digiKam 8.6 includes enhancements to its auto-tag management feature, enabling automated tagging of elements within images. The auto-tagging process is now faster and more precise, leveraging the YOLOv11 Nano, YOLOv11 XLarge, and EfficientNet B7 models for improved object recognition.

Other notable improvements in digiKam 8.6 include enhanced red-eye correction, updates based on the Qt 6.8.1 toolkit, and various dependency updates. The release also incorporates numerous bug fixes and performance enhancements. For a comprehensive list of changes and to download the software, visit the official release announcement on digiKam.org.
