Amazon and Tesla Top Beneficiaries of H-1B Visa Program in 2024

According to data from the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Amazon, Tesla, and other prominent US-based companies have emerged as major beneficiaries of the H-1B visa program in 2024. These firms collectively secured thousands of visas, highlighting their dependence on skilled foreign workers to foster innovation and expansion.

Amazon maintained its leading position, with 9,265 H-1B visa approvals solidifying its status as the largest employer of H-1B workers. Tesla also featured prominently, along with other tech giants such as Google, Meta, Microsoft, and Apple.

These companies are leveraging the H-1B visa program to fill specialized roles crucial to maintaining their global competitiveness. The availability of talented foreign workers in fields such as engineering, research, and development is essential for their operations.

Top 10 US Companies with H-1B Approvals in 2024:

    • Amazon Com Services LLC: 9,265 approvals
    • Cognizant Technology Solutions: 6,321 approvals
    • Google LLC: 5,364 approvals
    • Meta Platforms Inc: 4,844 approvals
    • Microsoft Corporation: 4,725 approvals
    • Apple Inc: 3,873 approvals
    • HCL America Inc: 2,953 approvals
    • IBM Corporation: 2,906 approvals
    • Walmart Associates: 2,904 approvals
    • Capgemini America: 2,795 approvals

Indian IT Firms: A Strong Presence

Indian-origin IT companies continue to play a significant role in the H-1B landscape. Infosys secured 8,140 H-1B approvals, followed by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) with 5,274. Other key players included HCL America (2,953), Wipro (1,634), and Tech Mahindra (1,199), showing a continuing global demand for skilled IT professionals.

    The Importance of H-1B Visas

The H-1B program allows US companies to hire highly skilled foreign professionals when domestic talent is scarce. These positions, frequently in engineering and R&D, are key to driving innovation and economic growth in the United States. The 2024 data emphasizes the crucial role of H-1B visas in shaping workforces for both US and Indian tech giants.

    Recent Changes to H-1B Records

In a notable change, the US Department of Labor has begun deleting H-1B and other visa records older than five years from the Foreign Labor Application Gateway (FLAG) system. This move presents challenges for applicants and legal representatives needing these records for legal or employment purposes, as this data will no longer be available.
