Nvidia Corp. Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang arrived in Beijing on Thursday, April 17, 2025, shortly after the US government barred the company from selling its H20 AI chips to China. Huang, known for being a frequent visitor to the country, attended an event in the capital at the invitation of a domestic trade group, according to a social media account affiliated with state-run China Central Television. In a video posted to the account, Huang was seen wearing a suit and tie, a departure from his trademark black leather jacket. The specific event he attended remained unclear.

The visit comes at a time when Nvidia faces significant regulatory challenges in its operations with China. The US government’s decision to bar Nvidia from selling its advanced AI chips to China marks a significant escalation in the ongoing tech trade tensions between the two nations. Nvidia’s H20 AI chips are considered crucial for various artificial intelligence applications, and the sale of these chips has been a point of contention in US-China relations.

Huang’s visit to Beijing underscores the importance of the Chinese market for Nvidia, despite the regulatory hurdles. The company’s CEO has been known to maintain a strong presence in China, reflecting the country’s significance in Nvidia’s global business strategy.
