Opera has integrated its AI assistant, Aria, into the Opera Mini browser for Android, enabling users to access real-time information, summarize text, and generate images within the lightweight browser. This development brings AI-powered features to over 100 million global users of Opera Mini, known for its data-saving approach.

Key Features of Aria in Opera Mini

    • Answers questions
    • Generates text or software code
    • Creates images using Google’s Imagen 3 model
    • Summarizes webpages
    • Pulls real-time information from the internet

    Optimized for Low Data Usage

The Opera Mini version of Aria is optimized to operate efficiently on older devices and in conditions of low data usage, making advanced AI capabilities accessible beyond high-end smartphones and stable internet connections.

    Making AI More Accessible

Opera’s initiative addresses the challenge of making AI features available to users with limited device capabilities or internet connectivity. By leveraging its AI engine, Composer, which combines tools from OpenAI and Google, Opera Mini provides an alternative to AI assistants that typically require significant computational resources.

    Future Developments

While the integration of Aria marks a significant enhancement, Opera has hinted at further updates for Opera Mini, suggesting a continued focus on blending AI capabilities with the browser’s existing strengths. This approach could set a precedent for developing AI assistants that are both powerful and accessible.

The addition of Aria to Opera Mini not only expands the browser’s functionality but also underscores Opera’s commitment to making AI-enhanced browsing available to a broader audience, particularly in regions with challenging internet conditions.
