Microsoft Finally Rolls Out Controversial ‘Recall’ Feature to Copilot+ PCs

Microsoft has released its headline feature, Recall, for Copilot+ PCs, along with other AI experiences like improved search and click-to-do, despite initial privacy concerns. This update brings Copilot+ PCs closer to fulfilling their promise of being the fastest, smartest, and most secure Windows devices yet.

The Recall feature, an opt-in experience, takes screenshots to help users remember tasks done on their PC. Click-to-do is an AI-assisted writing tool that allows users to summarize, correct spelling and grammar, rewrite text, and remove objects from images. The improved Windows search makes it easier to find files with contextual searching capabilities.

These features are available for Snapdragon, Intel, and AMD-powered Copilot+ PCs, with the text action capability in click-to-do limited to Snapdragon-powered devices. Users can download the April 2025 Windows non-security preview update to access these features, although European users will have to wait a few more months.

Microsoft introduced Copilot+ branded Windows PCs in May 2024, claiming they were “the fastest, most intelligent, and most secure Windows PCs ever built.” As of January 2025, 15% of all premium PCs sold were Copilot+ PCs, which initially cost at least $999 but have since dropped to $599.

According to Microsoft, Copilot+ PCs deliver 13% faster performance than the latest MacBook Air M4, up to five times more performance than a five-year-old Windows PC, and lead in battery life with up to 22 hours of video playback or 15 hours of web browsing per charge.
