The future of healthcare is being reshaped by artificial intelligence, as evident at the recently concluded 27th China Beijing International High-Tech Expo. The event highlighted numerous innovations, from surgical robots to AI-powered traditional Chinese medicine diagnostics, drawing significant attention from attendees.

At the Longwood Valley MedTech booth, a robotic arm demonstrated a simulated knee surgery on a life-size artificial leg with remarkable precision, captivating a crowd of onlookers. According to the company, their AI-powered orthopedic system is the world’s first to integrate 3D reconstruction, intelligent planning, precise execution, and digital evaluation into a single workflow. This system supports complex surgeries involving the hip, knee, and spine, areas traditionally associated with longer durations and higher risks. “The robot is highly intelligent and effective,” said a staff member, “reducing a complicated three-hour operation to just 30 minutes.” Another company representative, Zeng Huicai, mentioned that multiple hospitals are preparing to adopt this technology, which is already in clinical use at several top institutions.

Other exhibitors focused on enhancing traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) with AI. At Guanwei Intelligent Technology’s booth, visitors tried a multi-modal health scanner powered by AI, which conducted rapid health assessments based on TCM principles. The device used facial imaging, pulse sensing, and a handheld grip to assess vital indicators within minutes, producing personalized reports with lifestyle guidance.

The healthcare section of the expo featured over 160 companies, focusing on life sciences and medical innovation. Exhibits spanned various sectors, including cell and gene therapy, brain science, and AI-based diagnostics. Visitors showed interest in innovative technologies, including a device treating cancer with X-rays. These advancements are gaining traction in hospitals and research institutions across China, highlighting the country’s growing influence in global medical innovation.

The annual event, held from May 8 to May 11 at the China National Convention Center in Beijing, demonstrated the rapid evolution of healthcare technology. As one visitor from Scotland noted, “The technologies here are impressive, and there are good opportunities for international trade from China to the world.”
