Amazon Enters Foldable Tech Market
Amazon is reportedly developing a foldable tablet to compete with Apple’s rumored device and Huawei’s recent MateBook Fold Ultimate, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The news comes as the foldable device market heats up, with multiple major tech companies vying for position.
Kuo revealed on X (formerly Twitter) that Amazon is internally developing a foldable tablet similar to what Apple is expected to release. The device is projected to potentially launch before Apple’s entry into the large foldable market. “My research indicates that Amazon is also internally developing a similar product, which has not yet officially kicked off,” Kuo stated on May 20, 2025.

The development timeline suggests that Amazon’s foldable tablet could enter mass production by late 2026 or sometime in 2027, although this remains tentative as the project hasn’t officially begun. If these projections hold true, Amazon may beat Apple to market, as the tech giant isn’t expected to start mass production of its large foldable iPad until late 2027 or early 2028.
Kuo’s claims are supported by Ross Young, Vice President of Counterpoint Research, who confirmed awareness of Amazon’s foldable tablet plans and discussions with major suppliers. The news follows Huawei’s recent launch of the MateBook Fold Ultimate in China, featuring an 18-inch foldable screen that transforms into a 13-inch laptop format. This device showcases the versatility of foldable technology, allowing users to work on a wide display or use a virtual keyboard when folded at a 90-degree angle.
The growing competition in the foldable device market is evident as major tech companies prepare to enter this emerging space. Amazon’s potential entry, along with Huawei’s recent launch and Apple’s rumored device, signals a significant shift in the tech industry towards more versatile and innovative form factors.
