TikTok Cyber Threats and Cryptocurrency Hack Highlight Growing Tech Dangers
WASHINGTON (TNND) — Cybercriminals are increasingly using AI-generated videos on TikTok to trick users into compromising their personal information. Simultaneously, one of the largest cryptocurrency companies in the United States fell victim to a significant cyberattack resulting in approximately $400 million in losses.

Cybersecurity expert and personal security attorney Leeza Garber explained that the cryptocurrency company, Coinbase, experienced a breach when employees were bribed to leak user information. The hackers then demanded a $20 million ransom, which the company refused to pay. Garber detailed that the AI-generated TikTok videos use a synthesized voice to instruct users on altering their profile settings, supposedly to gain free access to other apps. In reality, these changes allow hackers to access other user accounts.
