Anthropic, a leading AI startup, has unveiled its next-generation artificial intelligence assistant, Claude 4, marking a significant advancement in large language models (LLMs). The new models, Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, were introduced at the company’s inaugural Code with Claude conference. These developments are expected to enhance the thinking and reasoning capabilities of LLMs, addressing significant current limitations.
Key Features of Claude 4
According to Scott White, product leader of Claude.ai, the latest release represents a shift from Claude being a mere question-answering tool to a collaborative partner. White described this evolution as providing users with “professional superpowers” by transforming tasks into collaborative extensions that augment human thinking.
Enhanced Capabilities
Claude 4 is billed as Anthropic’s most powerful model yet and the best coding model in the world. It is designed to conduct nearly seven hours of autonomous work, making it suitable for complex tasks. The model’s ability to “stop and think” and reason over extended periods, combined with its integration with various tools, allows it to accomplish high-level goals more effectively.
For instance, while previous iterations could generate a basic fitness plan, Claude 4 can create a highly tailored plan considering a user’s schedule, health status, and bio data from fitness trackers. It can even suggest supplementary activities like swimming and provide details on local facilities.
Claude Code
Anthropic also announced that Claude Code would become generally available following positive feedback. Powered by Opus 4 and Sonnet 4, Claude Code enables Anthropic’s LLMs to analyze data by writing code, a capability that may not be immediately visible to users but significantly enhances the models’ analytical thinking.

White emphasized that Claude Code is not only beneficial for professional developers but also for those without coding knowledge, such as product managers. It allows them to create prototypes of their ideas, effectively bridging the gap between concept and execution.
The potential of Claude Code extends to making complex coding more accessible. White expressed excitement about the future possibilities, including helping users build their own integrations using Claude Code as a stepping stone.
As the boundaries between job functions continue to blur, Anthropic’s latest release positions Claude as a versatile tool that can cater to a wide range of users, from developers to non-technical professionals, enhancing collaboration and productivity in various fields.
