Google Announces AI Mode Reporting for Search Console
Google has confirmed that AI Mode reporting will soon be available in Google Search Console. Although the feature is not yet live, it will be rolled out as part of the AI Mode implementation.
John Mueller from Google commented on a LinkedIn post, stating, “AI Mode reporting is not yet live in Search Console. We’re updating our documentation to reflect this will be showing soon as part of the AI Mode rollout.” This clarification comes after initial confusion when AI Mode began rolling out in U.S. search results.

The Search Console help documentation initially only mentioned AI Overviews, but a new help document later indicated that Search Console would display AI Mode traffic. However, details on how it will be presented in the Search Console performance report remain unclear.
It is speculated that AI Mode data might be reported similarly to AI Overviews, potentially lacking a filter for exclusive AI Mode impressions, clicks, and CTR. Mueller mentioned that the reporting is planned to be added to Search Console as described, with no separate breakout or API change currently planned.
How AI Mode Reporting Will Be Integrated
One possibility is that AI Mode data will be included under the “Web” search type in Search Console’s performance reports, rather than being categorized as a separate search type or appearance filter. This is suggested by a help document update stating that AI Mode data will be reported within the “Web” search type.

The exact details of how AI Mode data will be presented and whether users will be able to drill down into specifics like queries, pages, impressions, and clicks remain uncertain. Google has promised more specifics, potentially as early as next week, but without committing to a specific timeline.
Clarification from John Mueller
In a follow-up, Mueller added on Bluesky, “Hey, for sake of clarity because I worry you’re reading something different into this, the reporting is planned to be added to Search Console like we wrote here. There’s currently no separate break-out planned, and no API change involved. Stay tuned for more specifics – perhaps next week, but as always, we can’t promise specific timelines.”

The introduction of AI Mode reporting in Search Console marks a significant development in how Google will track and report AI-driven search interactions. While the precise implementation details are still forthcoming, this move is expected to provide more insights into AI Mode’s impact on search performance.
