Modernizing the Healthcare System
UnitedHealth Group is developing and applying future-forward technology to eliminate friction and enhance transparency among payers, providers, and consumers. Our approach focuses on enabling clinicians to concentrate on patient care by providing evidence-based tools for real-time decision-making about treatment options, while reducing the time spent on authorizations and claims.

We’re innovating to streamline administrative transactions, clinical decision-making, and payments among healthcare stakeholders. By leveraging our comprehensive capabilities in revenue cycle management, operations, analytics, technology, and care coordination, we’re helping local health systems maintain their independence while delivering high-quality care to their communities.
Transformative Technology
The combination of our Optum Insight business with Change Healthcare is creating more effective and simpler experiences for consumers, payers, and care providers, while reducing costs across the healthcare system. The integrated businesses are working to:
- Improve healthcare delivery quality by offering critical point-of-care insights aligned with evidence-based medical standards within physician workflows.
- Simplify administration by fully automating claims transactions, including editing in the EDI stream, to improve claim accuracy.
- Reduce payment friction by providing patient benefits and payment obligations at the point of service and applying payment integrity edits upfront.
SPOTLIGHT: Clinical Decision Support
Our clinical decision support technology is empowering clinicians to deliver best-practice care. With our tools, clinicians followed best practice guidance 98% of the time, compared to 72% without access to this support. Moreover, the time taken to arrive at a decision was reduced by nearly 20%. We’re working to incorporate trusted artificial intelligence insights into our clinical decision support tools, enabling clinicians to shift from detecting problems to preventing them from occurring in the first place.
