Amazon Announces $10 Billion Investment in North Carolina
Amazon is bringing hundreds of jobs to North Carolina as part of a $10 billion investment in a new high-tech facility in Richmond County. The facility will serve as a campus for cloud computing and artificial intelligence innovation, creating 500 “high-paying” jobs, according to a news release.
North Carolina Governor Josh Stein praised the investment, saying, “Artificial intelligence is changing the way we work and innovate, and I am pleased that North Carolina will stay at the forefront of all that’s ahead as we continue to attract top technology companies.” The investment is among the largest in state history and is expected to bring an economic boost to Richmond County, located about 90 minutes east of Charlotte.
This new development follows Amazon’s recent opening of a facility in Kannapolis, which created about 100 new jobs. The company already has 24,000 full and part-time employees in North Carolina.
