True Pub Co, a London-based community-focused pub operator, has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Audoo, a music recognition technology company. The collaboration involves installing Audoo’s Audio Meters across True Pub Co’s portfolio of venues, marking a significant step towards ensuring that artists and songwriters receive fair compensation when their music is played in public spaces.
The partnership is part of a broader initiative to address the issue of lost royalties due to inaccurate music reporting methods. According to industry estimates, millions of pounds in royalties are lost annually because of the current reporting systems. Audoo’s Audio Meter technology captures real-time data on the songs played in public spaces, providing a transparent and accurate method for reporting music usage and supporting the creative industry.
Backed by music industry legends such as Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, and ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaeus, Audoo has already established several collaborations with retail and hospitality businesses. Notably, towards the end of 2024, Audoo partnered with The Metropolitan Pub Company, further expanding its presence in the industry.
As a pub operator adopting Audoo’s technology across its venues, True Pub Co is at the forefront of revolutionizing royalty reporting through data. Gerard Flynn, director at True Pub Co, emphasized the importance of music in creating the atmosphere and brand identity of their pubs. “At True Pub Co, music is more than just part of the background – it’s an essential part of the pub experience for our guests and our team; as well as brand identity for each and every one of our pubs,” Flynn said. “Partnering with Audoo ensures we can honour the artists whose music helps create that atmosphere by accurately reporting the tracks played in our venues. We’re proud to be at the forefront of a movement that supports transparency, fairness, and a thriving creative sector.”
Ryan Edwards, CEO of Audoo, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating, “The partnership with True Pub Co marks an important milestone for us, their pubs are built on atmosphere and experience, and music is a massive part of that. Together, we’re ensuring artists are recognised and fairly compensated, while also supporting venues in delivering great music experiences with full confidence in their reporting. We hope this will set a powerful precedent for the UK hospitality industry.”
This development comes as part of a growing trend of music industry figures investing in UK tech companies. The partnership between True Pub Co and Audoo is poised to make a significant impact on the music royalty reporting landscape, promoting fairness and transparency in the industry.
