U.S. President Donald Trump is set to appear at the inaugural Pennsylvania Energy and Innovation Summit on July 15 at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The event, organized by the office of U.S. Senator Dave McCormick, will bring together executives from major tech and energy companies.
Tech executives expected to attend include OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Meta Platforms CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, and Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai. Energy sector leaders such as Exxon Mobil CEO Darren Woods, Shell CEO Wael Sawan, and Chevron CEO Mike Wirth are also on the guest list, according to Axios.
The summit comes as the White House AI czar, David Sacks, expressed concerns this week that overly stringent regulation of U.S. AI could hinder growth and allow China to gain a critical market advantage. Sacks’ comments suggest that Trump’s approach to AI may focus on expanding U.S. markets abroad for AI chips and models.
This approach differs from that of former Democratic President Joe Biden, who emphasized policies to counter the risks of U.S. chips being diverted to China and used to enhance Beijing’s military capabilities. A group of 40 state attorneys general, including Republicans from states like Ohio, Tennessee, Arkansas, Utah, and Virginia, have urged states to develop and enforce sensible AI regulations to protect consumers, pushing back against Republican efforts to block state-level AI regulation.
