Microsoft Announces Major Layoffs Across Multiple Departments

Microsoft is planning to cut thousands of jobs, primarily in its sales division, according to recent reports from Bloomberg. The layoffs, expected to be formalized in early July, will also affect employees outside of sales teams. This move marks Microsoft’s fourth round of layoffs in 2025, following previous cuts in January, May, and June.

The tech giant has been investing heavily in AI-related infrastructure, committing $80 billion to build AI-enabled data centers. This investment indicates a significant shift towards AI integration across the company. While Microsoft hasn’t directly stated that these layoffs are due to AI replacing human jobs, the correlation between AI investment and workforce reduction is notable.

The trend of layoffs in the tech industry continues, with other major companies like Amazon, Meta, and Google also announcing significant workforce reductions. Amazon CEO Andy Jassy mentioned that the rollout of more generative AI and agents would “change the way our work is done,” potentially reducing the need for certain roles.

Microsoft’s Work Trend Index report revealed that one in three business leaders are considering layoffs due to AI deployment. This suggests that the trend of AI-driven workforce adjustments is likely to continue across various industries.

As Microsoft continues its restructuring, the company is focusing on efficiency gains through extensive AI adoption. The upcoming layoffs reflect the company’s efforts to adapt to the changing technological landscape and remain competitive in the market.
