Bactana Corp. to be Acquired by Kemin Industries, Accelerating Market Introduction of Groundbreaking Anaerobic Bacteria Technology

FARMINGTON, Conn., May 12, 2025 – Bactana Corp., a pioneering biotechnology company focused on advancements in anaerobic bacteria isolation and fermentation, today announced its agreement to be acquired by Kemin Industries, Inc., a global leader in ingredient manufacturing dedicated to improving quality of life through sustainable products and services.

The acquisition aligns with Kemin’s strategic vision to explore emerging technologies in intestinal health, further solidifying their industry position. “This acquisition represents a significant milestone for Kemin’s continued commitment to innovation in the intestinal health space,” said Kimberly Nelson, President of Kemin Nutrisurance.

For Bactana, the acquisition marks the culmination of years of dedicated research and development that began at Cornell University and continued through their successful participation in the UConn Technology Incubation Program (UConn TIP) in Farmington, CT. The resources provided by UConn TIP have been instrumental in advancing Bactana’s innovative research and preparing their solutions for market launch.

“We’re grateful for the support of our employees, advisors, and shareholders over the past six years,” said John Kallassy, CEO of Bactana Corp. “This agreement, combined with Kemin’s global reach, will enable us to better position our technology for worldwide application, particularly in animal health, and potentially improve the well-being of both animals and humans globally.”

Bactana is at the forefront of anaerobic fermentation technology and the isolation of postbiotic molecules produced by commensal bacteria in the microbiome. Their proprietary technology aims to support metabolic and intestinal health in companion animals while offering sustainable solutions to reduce antibiotic use and conserve natural resources in livestock production.

Kemin Industries, established in 1961, is a privately held, family-owned company operating in 90 countries with over 3,000 global employees. The company supplies more than 500 specialty ingredients across various industries including human and animal health, pet food, and aquaculture.
