Amazon Announces $20 Billion Investment in Pennsylvania for AI and Cloud Computing Infrastructure

Amazon today announced plans to invest at least $20 billion in Pennsylvania to expand its data center infrastructure in support of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud computing technologies. The investment is expected to create 1,250 new high-skilled jobs while supporting thousands of other positions in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center supply chain.

The new high-skilled jobs will range from data center engineers and network specialists to engineering operations managers and security specialists. In addition to these direct positions, the planned investment is expected to support thousands of local construction jobs and positions in the data center supply chain.

    Community Impact and Investment

This investment brings Amazon’s total commitment in Pennsylvania since 2010 to over $26 billion, contributing more than $26 billion to the Commonwealth’s GDP and supporting 27,000 full and part-time jobs, as well as 37,100 indirect jobs. Amazon will also bring various training and education programs to local communities, including data center technician programs and STEM awareness initiatives for K-12 schools.

    Supporting Education and Workforce Development

Amazon is committed to partnering with Pennsylvania educational institutions to develop training programs that prepare job seekers for careers in data center construction and operations. This includes initiatives like the Amazon Community Workforce Accelerator and AWS Information Infrastructure Pre-Apprenticeship programs.

    Empowering Local Communities

Amazon is launching the Amazon Northeastern Pennsylvania Community Fund with a $250,000 commitment to support initiatives focused on STEM education, sustainability, and digital skills among other areas. This fund will provide grants up to $10,000 for community projects in Luzerne and Columbia counties.

“Pennsylvania is competing again—and I’m proud to announce that with Amazon’s commitment of at least $20 billion to build new state-of-the-art data center campuses across our Commonwealth, we have secured the largest private sector investment in the history of Pennsylvania,” said Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro. “This initial investment from Amazon will create thousands of good-paying, stable jobs…”

Amazon’s investment in Pennsylvania reinforces its dedication to advancing AI innovation while creating lasting economic opportunities in the state. The company looks forward to helping drive the next generation of technology innovation while delivering meaningful benefits for Pennsylvania residents.
