Microsoft has released its 2025 Responsible AI Transparency Report, outlining its plans for building and maintaining responsible AI models as new regulations emerge. The report comes as AI and Large Language Models (LLMs) become increasingly integral to various aspects of modern life, raising concerns about their trustworthiness and security for companies like Microsoft.
The tech giant has taken a proactive approach to the future of AI, detailing its vision for the technology’s evolution in the coming years. This follows a global wave of regulations aimed at establishing the safe and responsible use of AI tools and implementing AI governance policies to help companies manage associated risks.
In its second transparency report, following the initial launch in May 2024, Microsoft highlights significant investments in responsible AI tools, policies, and practices. These include expanded risk management for modalities beyond text, such as images, audio, and video, as well as additional support for agentic systems. The company is also taking a layered approach to new regulations like the EU’s AI Act, providing customers with resources to ensure compliance.
Microsoft’s approach includes consistent risk management, oversight, and red-teaming of AI releases, alongside continued research and development to understand sociotechnical issues related to AI advancements. The company’s AI Frontiers Lab is pushing the boundaries of AI capabilities, efficiency, and safety.
As AI continues to advance, Microsoft plans to develop more adaptable tools and practices, investing in risk management systems to address common risks across various deployment scenarios. The company also aims to deepen its work on incoming regulations by supporting effective governance across the AI supply chain.
Microsoft is working internally and externally to clarify roles and expectations, while continuing research into AI risk measurement and evaluation. The company is sharing its advancements with the wider ecosystem to promote safer norms and standards.
