Virginia Tech Invites Media to Celebrate Grand Opening of Innovation Campus Academic Building
Virginia Tech is hosting two events to mark the grand opening of its first academic building at the Innovation Campus in Alexandria, Virginia. The 11-story building is designed to foster collaboration between academia, industry, and government, driving innovation in areas such as artificial intelligence, wireless technology, and drone systems.
Media Tour and Demonstrations
On Tuesday, February 25, members of the media are invited to an exclusive tour of the building, featuring demonstrations of cutting-edge technology and immersive experiences. The event will include:
- Welcome and introductory remarks by Lance Collins, Vice President & Executive Director of the Virginia Tech Innovation Campus
- Presentations on the building’s architecture by Liza Morris, Sven Shockey, and Travis Jessee
- Guided tours and demonstrations of various research projects
- Q&A opportunities with key stakeholders
Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting
On Friday, February 28, a ceremony will be held to officially open the building. The event will feature:
- Keynote speaker Dr. Regina Dugan, president and CEO of Wellcome Leap and two-time Virginia Tech alumna
- Government officials, university leaders, and other notable guests
- An open house with demonstrations and light refreshments
Some of the demonstrations at the open house will include:
- “Carving Out Creativity”: An immersive experience connecting participants across Virginia Tech locations
- Using AI to build a Mars rover: Showcasing Virginia Tech’s K-12 STEM programs
- Testing wireless technology using an indoor drone cage and lab: Demonstrating advancements in wireless networks and drone technology
- Jailbreaking ChatGPT: Exploring the vulnerabilities of large language models
- AI Accessibility: A mobile application using AI to assist visually impaired individuals
