Meta is reportedly in talks to acquire Play AI, a voice-cloning startup that could potentially enhance its consumer-facing AI features. According to a Bloomberg report citing anonymous sources, the tech giant aims to purchase the startup’s technology and bring some of its staff on board.
Play AI offers a voice-cloning service that allows users to replicate various voices for AI-powered applications, such as customer service, as stated on its website. The startup has secured $23.5 million in funding from investors including 500 Global, Kindred Ventures, Race Capital, and Soma Capital, as per Crunchbase data.
This potential acquisition aligns with Meta’s recent efforts to expand its AI capabilities. The company currently allows creators on its social platforms to build their own chatbots and has recently added video-editing features to its Meta AI chatbot. Acquiring Play AI’s voice-cloning technology could enable Meta to integrate advanced audio features into its creative suite.
Both Meta and Play AI declined to comment on the reported acquisition talks.
