The Indian government has rolled out an incentive scheme to encourage the deployment of 5,600 e-trucks across the country. The scheme, launched by the heavy industries ministry (MHI) under the PM E-DRIVE initiative, offers truck users an upfront reduction in the purchase price, with a maximum incentive of INR 9.6 Lakh.
Once the incentives are disbursed, the government will reimburse the amount to the original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) via the PM E-DRIVE portal. Additionally, the government has allocated INR 100 Cr to deploy 1,100 e-trucks in Delhi.
Key Highlights of the Scheme
- Maximum incentive per truck: INR 9.6 Lakh
- Total e-trucks to be deployed: 5,600
- Special provision for Delhi: 1,100 e-trucks with an outlay of INR 100 Cr
The government’s move is part of its broader efforts to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the country. By providing financial incentives, the government aims to reduce the financial burden on truck owners and encourage the transition to cleaner, more sustainable transportation options.

The scheme is expected to not only contribute to reducing the environmental impact of the transportation sector but also to support the growth of the electric vehicle ecosystem in India. As the country continues to push towards its sustainability goals, initiatives like the PM E-DRIVE are likely to play a crucial role in driving the adoption of electric vehicles across various segments.
