UNESCO and African Union Host Conference on STEM Transformation

UNESCO, in partnership with the African Union Commission (AUC) and other key continental organizations, is convening a three-day conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, from November 26th to 28th, 2024. The event aims to forge a strategic partnership to develop a transformative Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) ecosystem across Africa.

The conference directly addresses the African Union’s 2024 theme, “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century.”

The conference, which will be held in-person, according to the official event details, seeks to address challenges hindering STEM education, research, innovation, and entrepreneurship in Africa. A focus of the conference is addressing gender equality within the STEM field.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 4, which emphasizes inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The conference is scheduled to run from 9:00 AM on November 26th to 5:00 PM on November 28th, 2024, in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Registration for the event closes on November 8th, 2024.
