HOUSTON, February 24, 2025 – UBE Corporation today announced it commenced construction of a dimethyl carbonate (DMC) and ethyl methyl carbonate (EMC) plant near New Orleans, Louisiana. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by approximately 180 people, including government officials, community members, and construction personnel. Representatives from UBE, including President Masato Izumihara, and officials from UBE C1 Chemicals America, Inc., which will operate the plant, were present.

HYCO1, a leader in syngas production and carbon utilization technology, is partnering with UBE Corporation on this project. The facility marks a significant step forward in the production of sustainable battery materials, positioning UBE to be a key supplier for the rapidly growing electric vehicle (EV) market.

“We are excited for UBE and congratulate them on seeing this project move from concept to reality,” said HYCO1 CEO Greg Carr. “We are working in partnership with UBE as a key syngas plant supplier, a company with a 128-year history and stellar reputation for delivering world-class projects. This groundbreaking is more than just turning dirt—it represents a major leap forward in low-carbon syngas innovation, setting the stage for sustainable, efficient, and cost-effective production of EV battery electrolytes in the industry.”

HYCO1’s CUBE™ Technology was selected by UBE after extensive evaluation of syngas supply options. HYCO1’s proprietary process and catalyst technology allows the UBE plant to produce carbon monoxide (CO) and hydrogen (H₂) gases more efficiently and with substantial operational savings. The technology allows for lower-cost CO₂ to be used in place of natural gas, improving the sustainability of the process.

    Key Benefits of HYCO1’s Technology:

    • Operational Flexibility: Allows for the use of lower-cost CO₂ in the process.
    • Operational Efficiency: Reduces the energy required for syngas production.
    • Operational Robustness: Mitigates traditional syngas catalyst failure points.
