The Trump administration is formulating more aggressive measures to restrict China’s access to semiconductor technology, signaling a potential escalation of efforts initiated under the Biden administration to limit Beijing’s technological capabilities.
According to sources familiar with the matter, Trump administration officials recently held discussions with their counterparts in Japan and the Netherlands regarding further limitations on the deployment of engineers from Tokyo Electron Ltd. and ASML Holding NV to China. The primary objective, which was also a priority for the previous administration, is to ensure that key allies align their restrictions with those imposed by the United States on American chip-gear companies, including Lam Research Corp., KLA Corp., and Applied Materials Inc.
