HMD, the Finnish tech startup formerly known as Nokia Mobile, unveiled a fresh lineup of mobile devices at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, Spain. The company showcased a diverse range of products, including the Fusion X1 smartphone, Barca-branded phones, and several feature phones, along with a new set of wireless earbuds.
Fusion X1: Designed for Teenagers with Parental Controls
One of the key announcements was the HMD Fusion X1, developed in collaboration with Xplora. This smartphone is targeted toward teenagers and emphasizes safety and parental control features. Parents can subscribe to Xplora’s service, starting at €4.99 per month, to customize their child’s device access. The Xplora subscription allows parents to restrict social media and internet browsing, set up safe zones with location tracking at 20-second intervals, and enable emergency SOS calling and low battery alerts. The device also features a “School Mode” that limits app usage during school hours.
In addition, HMD is partnering with SafeToNet to integrate real-time protection against harmful online content directly onto its phones. This AI-powered technology automatically detects and blocks potentially harmful content before it can reach the user.
Barca Phones: Fan-Focused Features
For football fans, HMD announced a partnership with FC Barcelona, resulting in the HMD Barca 3210 and HMD Barca Fusion. These phones feature fan-focused content, including hidden messages from players, custom wallpapers, and even the classic game Snake incorporated into a pitch-themed design. The HMD Barca Fusion also includes smart features and player signatures.
Feature Phones: Enhanced Battery Life and Music Capabilities
HMD also introduced a range of feature phones, including the HMD 130 and 150 Music models. These phones aim for exceptional battery life, with a claimed standby time of up to a month on a single charge. Both models support Bluetooth 5.0 and microSD cards (up to 32 GB), with the 150 Music version also including a QVGA camera. The devices include Bluetooth speaker playback capabilities. The HMD 130 also has a dual torch at the top. The HMD 2660 Flip is another feature phone, featuring a 2.8-inch display and a 0.3MP camera.
Amped Buds: Wireless Audio with Noise Cancellation
Finally, HMD showcased the Amped Buds, which can wirelessly charge compatible smartphones. The earbuds feature Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), environmental noise cancellation (ENC), and EQ control via Android and iOS apps. The charging case includes a 1600mAh reverse charging capabilities.
