AI, Art, and New Technology: Exploring the Future
The Commonwealth Club hosted a forum, titled “AI, Art and New Technology: Threat or Opportunity,” which explored the dynamic intersection of art, artificial intelligence, and technological advancements. The event featured insightful discussions with a panel of artists, examining their current strategies and the transformative potential of these technologies.

Brett Amory: An interdisciplinary artist who emphasizes the interplay between everyday moments and digital technology, working primarily in painting and installation. His works have been exhibited internationally, including the National Portrait Gallery in London and the San Francisco’s de Young Museum.

Ahna Girshick: An artist-scientist whose art draws inspiration from the science of human and AI perception. She has exhibited her art at major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art (NY) and The Contemporary Jewish Museum (SF), and has published over 20 peer-reviewed publications and five patents. Her work explores human and AI collaboration.

Hugh Leeman: An artist and lecturer. He is an artist and lecturer who uses art and technology to create platforms aimed at connecting communities. He is currently working on projects that use oral histories and AI to preserve culture and improve human connection.

Şerife Wong: A Turkish-Kānaka Maoli artist and leader of Icarus Salon, a conceptual art organization centered on the intersection of politics, culture, and technology. Her work has received several significant awards, including recognition from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Mozilla Foundation. She is affiliated with O’Neil Risk Consulting and Algorithmic Auditing, Kidd Lab UC Berkeley, and the Tech Diplomacy Network.
Stephen Milborrow, a Bay Area artist and inventor, also participated, showcasing a portrait-drawing machine that creates realistic pen-on-paper portraits. This innovative technology offered a tangible example of the integration of technology and art.
