Hackers Target HUD Cafeteria with AI-Generated Video
In a surprising cyberattack, hackers disrupted the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) headquarters on Monday morning by infiltrating a cafeteria television and broadcasting an AI-generated video. The footage depicted former U.S. President Donald Trump caressing and kissing the feet of billionaire Elon Musk, accompanied by the phrase, “LONG LIVE THE REAL KING.”

The incident quickly garnered national attention, igniting discussions regarding cybersecurity vulnerabilities, political symbolism, and Musk’s perceived influence within the government. The origin of the hacked footage is believed to be a post from X, formerly Twitter, that appeared a week prior to the breach.
HUD Condemns Hack, Investigation Underway
HUD officials have condemned the breach, promising to take appropriate action. Kasey Lovett, a HUD spokeswoman, issued a formal statement, calling the hack “a waste of taxpayer dollars and resources.” She confirmed that the agency is investigating the incident and will hold those responsible accountable.
Political Reactions and Public Debate
Reactions from the public and government officials have been mixed. Some members of the House Financial Services Committee showed amusement, while some Democratic lawmakers were critical, seemingly approving of the video’s message, referring to Musk’s position overseeing budgetary audits of various federal agencies, including HUD. Others, however, condemned the stunt as inappropriate and potentially illegal.
The controversial incident has fueled the debate over the influence of Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, on government operations. Musk, aged 53, currently leads the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), which is an initiative focused on auditing and reducing wasteful federal spending. Though his involvement has both supporters and detractors, some view his reforms as essential, while others believe he wields too much power within the executive branch.
Musk’s Role and Public Opinion
Recent polls suggest a growing concern among Americans regarding Musk’s level of influence within the federal government. Under Musk’s direction, the DOGE team claims to have recovered $1.9 billion in misallocated HUD funds and canceled at least $4 million in diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) contracts. In response to these budgetary adjustments, Musk commented on X, “It is astounding how much taxpayer money can be saved with even a small amount of effort.”
Additionally, Musk has mandated that all federal employees submit weekly reports outlining their accomplishments in five bullet points. HUD Secretary Scott Turner confirmed that the department is actively working on a DOGE task force aimed at improving efficiency. He stated, “We’re going to take inventory of all HUD’s programs and ensure every dollar that goes out the door is advancing HUD’s mission.”
