An AI-generated video showing Donald Trump apparently licking and caressing Elon Musk’s toes was reportedly played repeatedly at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) in Washington, D.C. on Monday, according to multiple news reports.
The video, of unknown origin, reportedly ran on a continuous loop. Accompanying the video was the message, in all capital letters: “Long live the real King,” referencing a recent Truth Social post by Trump that included the same phrase alongside a drawing of himself wearing a crown.
Online reactions ranged from humorous to critical. One commenter suggested that someone should buy the hacker “all the beers.” Another joked that Musk himself would appear to destroy the monitors, referencing the SpaceX founder’s prior claim of cutting government “inefficiency.”
The connection between Trump and Musk has sparked speculation and online commentary. Musk’s high-profile presence since Trump’s second term began on Jan. 20 has fueled the “#PresidentMusk” hashtag. The extent of Musk’s involvement within the administration remains unclear. Though a new Department of Government Efficiency, DOGE, has been created and has slashed federal jobs, the White House stated February 18 that Musk isn’t actually an employee.
On February 12, Musk, accompanied by his four-year-old son, held forth on his policies with reporters. In a press conference that has been described by news outlets as “surreal,” a “toxic bromance,” and “the most powerless image of a president,” Trump sat silently at his desk.
Trump appointed Scott Turner to lead HUD, and he was confirmed on February 5 by a vote of 55-44, with support from two Democrats.
