Amazon has cancelled its high fantasy series The Wheel of Time after three seasons. The decision comes due to the show’s high production costs and declining viewership during its third season. Despite the show’s critical acclaim, with its third season receiving a 97% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes, Amazon decided not to renew it for a fourth season.
The news was first reported by Deadline, stating that Amazon determined the cost of producing more seasons was too high. The show’s cast had previously expressed confidence in a season 4 renewal, but unfortunately, they won’t be returning for another season.
The Wheel of Time’s third season was considered its best yet, with many critics praising its return to form. However, the show’s viewership declined, leading to its cancellation. Fans had grown concerned about the show’s future after the lack of updates following its third season finale, and some even started a fan campaign to save the show.
The cancellation of The Wheel of Time leaves Amazon’s Lord of the Rings prequel series as the company’s biggest high fantasy show on Prime Video. While some fans were satisfied with the show’s conclusion, others are disappointed that the story won’t continue.
