The upcoming Amazon Prime series, ‘Day One,’ has begun filming at several of Barcelona’s most significant technological locations, bringing the story of a computational prodigy to life.
‘Day One’ is scheduled to film at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (home to the MareNostrum 5 supercomputer), the ALBA Synchrotron, the Talent Arena trade fair, the Collserola Tower, the University Pompeu Fabra, and the 22@ technological district. The series focuses on Ulises Albet, played by Spanish actor Álex González, a gifted computational expert who withdraws from the technological world after his sister’s suicide, which was linked to cyberbullying.

After receiving a mysterious call from his best friend, Samuel Barrera, warning of impending danger, Albet is compelled to confront his past and the advancements in technology. The cast also includes Spanish actors Alba Plana, Asier Etxeandía, and Jordi Mollà, as well as Mexican actress Renata Notni and Catalan actor Ivan Massagué. The series is expected to be released as early as 2026.
In related news, the organizers of the Mobile World Congress (MWC) and the Mobile World Capital Barcelona organization have jointly announced another Amazon Prime series, which is based on the “Catalan technological scene.” The MWC, an annual event held in Barcelona, recently opened its doors.
According to Francisco Fajula, CEO of Mobile World Capital Barcelona, the aim of this new show is “to promote the technological scientific ecosystem of Catalonia, and reflect in the ethic use of technology.” Fajula stated in an interview that the series will highlight the idea that “technology is not bad in general, instead is about how we use technology as a tool.” The Amazon Prime series is planned to be available in over 200 countries and in eight different languages, with the goal of premiering before the next MWC.
