Amazon to Close Its Android App Store
Amazon has announced the closure of its Android App Store, with operations ceasing on August 20 of this year. The company has already notified developers to stop submitting new applications. This move signals a shift in Amazon’s strategy, as it appears to be concentrating on its own devices and the broader ecosystem.

This decision isn’t entirely unexpected. The majority of Android users have largely favored the Google Play Store for their app and game downloads, leading to limited traction for Amazon’s alternative. While Android allows users to ‘sideload’ apps from other sources, most have remained with Google’s default app store.
However, the Amazon App Store will continue to function on Amazon’s own platforms, like Fire TV, Fire HD tablets, and other proprietary devices.
Besides the App Store, Amazon is also discontinuing its Amazon Coins program. Customers will no longer be able to access this program; refunds will be offered to those with remaining coins in their accounts.
In the meantime, Amazon is preparing for its upcoming Alexa AI event, where the company is expected to unveil updates to its voice assistant. The updates will likely include significant advancements in AI technology.
