Amazon Tests AI Shopping Tool and Health Chatbot
Amazon (AMZN) is currently testing two new artificial intelligence (AI) tools, signaling the company’s increased investment in the technology. These include a new shopping feature called ‘Interests’ and a health-focused chatbot.
The ‘Interests’ feature is designed to help customers discover new products based on their individual preferences. According to information on Amazon’s webpage, the tool allows consumers to create personalized shopping prompts using everyday language. For example, a user could input ‘brewing tools and gadgets for coffee lovers’, and ‘Interests’ will then scan the online store to identify and alert the customer of relevant new products. Amazon stated that ‘Interests’ leverages large language models to translate these prompts into queries that traditional search engines can process.
Amazon is initially making ‘Interests’ available to a limited number of customers in the U.S. through its app and mobile website, with plans for a wider rollout.
Separately, Amazon is also testing a health and wellness chatbot. According to an Amazon spokesperson, this assistant, called ‘Health AI,’ will provide users with information and guidance to “easily discover and navigate products and solutions that address health care needs and find access to appropriate care.” CNBC first reported on the testing of the health chatbot.
Amazon shares were trading lower in the morning session. Over the past 12 months through Tuesday, shares gained approximately 14%.
