Amazon is closing its Android app store, ceasing support for new app listings, and discontinuing its Amazon Coins program by August 2025. The e-commerce giant announced that it would be refocusing its efforts to develop its app store experience on its own devices, such as Fire TV and Fire Tablet. The company made the announcement on its support page.
Previously launched in 2021, the Amazon app store was designed as an alternative to the Google Play Store, distributing apps compatible with Android devices. “Starting August 20, 2025, you will no longer have access to the Amazon Appstore on your Android device,” a company statement said. Amazon has stated that only a small percentage of users access the app store from devices other than its own.

Furthermore, Amazon announced it is discontinuing its digital currency program, Amazon Coins. Any Coins held by users will be refunded by August 20, 2025. These Coins have been used to purchase apps and games from the Amazon app store.
Last year, Amazon ceased support for its app store on Windows devices on March 5, 2025.
