Enerbase Cooperative Resources has launched the Midwest’s first convenience store equipped with Amazon’s “Just Walk Out” technology. The location is a Cenex store on South Broadway in Minot, North Dakota, according to a report from NACS.
The technology allows customers to bypass traditional checkout lines. The aim is to free up staff to focus on customer service, including forecourt services such as fueling and windshield washing. The store utilized a 3D model to determine camera placements for the system. Despite the new technology, the store retains a traditional checkout area for fuel payments, purchases of age-restricted items, and restroom access.
“As a cooperative, we’re always looking for ways to improve operations and deliver the best service to our members and customers,” Enerbase CEO Ricky Aberle told NACS. “Bringing this technology to the c-store allows our team to focus on providing the best experience for the factors we can’t automate, like welcoming guests, answering their questions, changing their oil and checking their tire pressure.”
