American Battery Technology Company Secures Major Funding for Lithium Project
Reno, Nev., April 29, 2025 – American Battery Technology Company (NASDAQ: ABAT), a leading integrated critical battery materials company, has received a Letter of Interest (LOI) from the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM) for $900 million in financing to support the construction of its commercial-scale lithium mine and claystone-to-lithium hydroxide refinery near Tonopah, Nevada.
The proposed funding aligns with EXIM’s ‘Make More in America’ initiative and its ‘China and Transformational Export Program,’ which provide beneficial financing terms for U.S. companies facing competition from China in critical export areas, including domestic manufacturing of critical minerals. ABTC’s project is expected to significantly boost U.S. production of battery-grade lithium products, reducing reliance on foreign sources.

ABTC has already successfully demonstrated its technologies at pilot scale and manufactured battery-grade lithium hydroxide from claystone collected from its Tonopah Flats lithium resource, one of the largest known lithium deposits in the United States. The company has partnered with Black & Veatch, a global engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) leader, for the commercial-scale design and construction of the 30,000 tonne/year lithium hydroxide refinery project.
The LOI from EXIM is seen as a significant validation of ABTC’s mission and technologies, which are aligned with the U.S. government’s efforts to increase domestic mineral production and secure the supply chain for critical battery materials. The Executive Order from March 20, 2025, titled ‘Immediate Measures to Increase American Mineral Production,’ further supports such initiatives by directing federal agencies to unlock permitting, funding, and offtake agreements for domestic critical mineral manufacturing facilities.
While the LOI does not constitute a commitment of financing, it represents a crucial step towards securing the necessary funds to bring ABTC’s commercial-scale lithium project to fruition. The company remains committed to its mission to lead the sustainable advancement of critical battery materials and strengthen the domestic battery supply chain.
