Amwell has appointed Dan Zamansky as its Chief Product and Technology Officer, effective Monday, according to a company press release. He will lead the company’s product, research, and development organizations. His focus will be on enhancing the virtual care platform offered to payers and health systems.

Zamansky’s appointment follows over a decade at Amazon, where he held various leadership positions in product management, engineering, and technology. He founded and led Amazon Web Services Health AI, which provides artificial intelligence tools for healthcare and life science companies, the press release stated. Prior to joining Amwell, Zamansky served as the general manager for platform core services at the e-commerce giant, overseeing technology teams in Amazon’s ad business, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Zamansky succeeds Vaughn Paunovich, who previously held the title of executive vice president of enterprise platforms and joined Amwell in 2022. Paunovich left the company for personal reasons, an Amwell spokesperson informed Healthcare Dive.
Amwell has been undergoing several leadership changes recently. In October, Mark Hirschhorn, formerly an executive at fellow telehealth firms TapestryHealth and Teladoc Health, was named as the company’s chief financial officer. He has since expanded his responsibilities and also became the company’s chief operating officer at the beginning of the year.
Additionally, Kathy Weiler, former chief commercial and growth officer, departed Amwell at the end of 2024, according to a securities filing. Roy Schoenberg, who previously served as co-CEO, stepped down last summer to become executive vice chairman of Amwell’s board of directors.
The telehealth vendor is aiming to achieve positive cash flow by 2026, Amwell executives reiterated during a fourth-quarter earnings call last month. The company reduced its losses last year, reporting a net loss of $212.6 million, compared to a loss of $679.2 million in 2023. Amwell is also focusing its product portfolio on key growth drivers, which included the sale of its virtual psychiatric care business to another telehealth provider, Avel eCare, in January.
