APAC’s HTA Adoption to Grow Amidst Infrastructure, Talent Challenges

The Asia-Pacific region is witnessing a significant expansion in the adoption of Health Technology Assessment (HTA) as various markets strive to modernize their healthcare systems. According to a recent BMI report, key markets such as Indonesia, the Philippines, and Australia are updating their legislation and policy frameworks to incorporate HTA.

Despite the progress, the development of HTA infrastructure in these regions faces notable challenges. The report highlights that Indonesia, for instance, struggles with the lack of a robust HTA infrastructure. This includes the absence of comprehensive local data on costs, clinical information, and health outcomes. Inadequate funding further exacerbates the issue, restricting the capacity for research and the acquisition of essential data.

Moreover, investment in advanced tools and technologies needed for effective HTA remains limited due to financial constraints. The BMI report emphasizes that these challenges hinder the growth and effectiveness of HTA in the region.

As the APAC region continues to modernize its healthcare systems, addressing these infrastructure and talent challenges will be crucial for the successful adoption and implementation of HTA. The expansion of HTA is expected to enhance the quality and efficiency of healthcare services across the region.
