Apple Delays Launch of Enhanced Siri Features, Pushing Release to 2026
Apple has delayed the release of its upgraded Siri features, initially announced for a 2025 spring launch, according to reports. The delay stems from the need for further development, including advancements in personal context awareness and cross-app actions.
The company had previously indicated at WWDC 2024 that a more conversational Siri was in development, aiming for a 2025 release. However, sources now suggest that the enhanced features will not be available until 2026 at the earliest.
An Apple spokesperson confirmed the delay, as reported by Daring Fireball, stating that the features, which include improved personal context understanding and the ability to perform actions across apps are now slated to roll out “in the coming year.”
Jacqueline Roy, a company spokesperson, provided a statement explaining the rationale behind the postponement:
Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly, and in just the past six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, introduced new features like type to Siri and product knowledge, and added an integration with ChatGPT. We’ve also been working on a more personalized Siri, giving it more awareness of your personal context, as well as the ability to take action for you within and across your apps. It’s going to take us longer than we thought to deliver on these features and we anticipate rolling them out in the coming year.
Concerns Over AI Capabilities
The postponement raises questions about the current capabilities of Apple’s AI technology. Internal concerns that the features were not performing as expected during personal testing may have contributed to the delay.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg reports that some Apple executives, including software boss Craig Federighi, expressed significant internal concerns regarding the features’ functionality. There is even speculation that these features might need to be completely redesigned.
This delay impacts the anticipated release of a “true modernised, conversational version of Siri,” with the earliest possible launch now projected for iOS 20. This has led to speculation about the future of the features.
Apple Intelligence Features
Last year, Apple unveiled AI-driven features centered around the umbrella of Apple Intelligence. These features encompassed capabilities like rewriting emails and summarizing content.
The delay reflects the challenges of integrating advanced artificial intelligence into consumer products to meet the needs of users. As the field of AI continues to evolve, Apple is working to ensure its products meet the exacting standards of their customers.
