Ashwin Denounces Fabricated Retirement Claims: “Creative Storytelling in AI Era”
Former Indian cricket spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has publicly dismissed a false quote circulating on social media, falsely attributing retirement plans to star players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The clarification comes as India gears up for the highly anticipated Champions Trophy 2025 final against New Zealand.
The fake quote, which appeared on an X (formerly Twitter) account, suggested Ashwin had stated that Rohit Sharma was planning to continue playing until the 2027 ODI World Cup and that Virat Kohli was considering retirement to spend more time with his family.

Ashwin responded to the fabricated post with a sarcastic message, stating, “Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?”
Kohli and Rohit, who retired from T20Is following India’s 2024 T20 World Cup campaign, are crucial members of the Indian team for the upcoming Champions Trophy final. Kohli has been instrumental in India’s success, delivering match-winning performances, while Rohit has provided strong starts.
With the final against New Zealand approaching, the focus remains on the team’s preparation.
