Amazon Web Services (AWS) is reportedly investing heavily in agentic artificial intelligence (AI), with CEO Matt Garman suggesting it could become a significant revenue driver for the company.
According to a recent report, AWS has established a new team dedicated to agentic AI. This group will be under the leadership of AWS executive Swami Sivasubramanian, who will report directly to Garman. Reuters cited an internal email from Garman as the source of this information.
“We have the opportunity to help our customers innovate even faster and unlock more possibilities, and I firmly believe that AI agents are core to this next wave of innovation,” Garman wrote in the email.
Garman also highlighted the agentic capabilities of the new version of Amazon’s voice assistant, Alexa+, in a LinkedIn post. “Alexa+ can work on tasks in the background, handling complex interactions with websites and services even when you’re not actively engaging,” Garman wrote. “And it does all this while leveraging Amazon Web Services (AWS)’s world-class cloud infrastructure and security to protect user privacy and data.”
Sivasubramanian, in his own LinkedIn post, noted that Alexa+ instantly matches each user request with the appropriate AI model and can connect with services like email, calendars, and various apps. “For customers, this means having an AI assistant that independently completes tasks on your behalf,” Sivasubramanian wrote. “You don’t need to hold the device or select an app to take action. Alexa+ doesn’t require you to stare at a screen while you wait for the delegated action to complete.”
Agentic AI has been predicted to potentially challenge, and even replace, human software engineers.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has suggested that his company’s most advanced AI reasoning model could achieve top rankings in competitive programming contests by the end of the year. Additionally, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang indicated that the current AI wave, beginning with generative AI and now advancing into AI agents, is only two years in development. Huang expressed his belief that AI is becoming mainstream and will become integral in all industries.
