AXS Singapore: Revolutionizing Digital Payments with AWS
AXS, a leading payment solutions provider in Singapore, has modernized its infrastructure with Amazon Web Services (AWS), enabling the rapid launch of its innovative AXS Drive app. This move has positioned the company for strategic expansion across Southeast Asia, demonstrating the power of cloud-based solutions in the financial services sector.

Transforming Infrastructure for Strategic Growth
AXS, a pioneer in Singapore’s cashless payments industry, processes over 650 million transactions each month, totaling more than S$210 billion. Facing limitations with its on-premises infrastructure, including slow development cycles and resource-intensive management, AXS sought to modernize its digital infrastructure using AWS. Their goal was to become more agile, scalable, and able to quickly develop and launch new services to maintain leadership in the digital payments industry. A key ambition was the AXS Drive app, a cloud-native solution meant to streamline parking payments.
To achieve these objectives, AXS collaborated with AsiaPac Technology, an AWS Partner, integrating AWS solutions into its operations.
“With AWS, we’ve revolutionized our ability to deliver cutting-edge payment solutions faster than ever. This collaboration is pivotal to our Southeast Asia expansion. It is empowering us to launch new products like AXS Drive rapidly and cost-effectively. This brings us closer to our vision of becoming the go-to digital payments provider in the region,” said Tze Wei Koh, Chief Technology Officer, AXS Singapore.
Enhancing Agility with AWS Serverless Technologies
AXS leveraged AWS serverless technologies to drive rapid innovation and expansion. The AXS Drive app was developed in the cloud, streamlining parking payments and reducing time-to-market within 24 weeks. This cloud-based approach simplified infrastructure management and reduced costs by 30 percent.
The company used several key AWS services:
- Amazon EC2: This platform provided dynamic resource allocation, optimizing performance. With over 750 instances, AXS gained the flexibility to adjust to varying workload demands.
- Amazon ECS: A fully managed service for container orchestration, Amazon ECS simplified deployment and scaling of the AXS Drive app, reducing development time.
- AWS Fargate: This service removed the need for server management, offering greater flexibility and reducing operational costs by 30 percent. It enabled on-demand provisioning, reducing hardware setup time from up to two months to near-instant availability.
- Amazon Connect: AXS transformed its call center operations using this AI-powered contact center solution, enabling faster, more responsive customer support.
Driving New Enterprise Value
AXS has evolved from a traditional bill payments service to a cloud-enabled leader in the digital payments industry. Its transition to a serverless platform on AWS has opened opportunities for enterprise-scale growth. The flexible, agile cloud-based infrastructure is designed to rapidly respond to market changes and navigate diverse regulatory environments.
Looking ahead, AXS plans to evolve the AXS Drive app into a comprehensive super app for drivers, integrating various payment systems and customer experiences into a single platform. This initiative underlines the company’s commitment to innovation and its vision of becoming pivotal to the region’s digital transformation.
Mr. Koh reiterated the importance of this collaboration: “With AWS, we’ve revolutionized our ability to deliver cutting-edge payment solutions faster than ever. …This brings us closer to becoming the go-to digital payments provider in the region.”
